I know we haven’t blogged in a LONG time. Christmas snuck up on me and clubbed me over the head and kept me hostage in it’s dank basement until I was able to break free after New Year. So, Happy New Year everyone, we have a brand spanking new blog, and here it is. Nikki wrote this one, so please pretend you like it or she will will be sulky and insufferable for ever. Enjoy!
Yep. The ”blahs” are here. Holidays are over, most of us cooped up inside dreaming of tropical beaches. Unless of course, you’re one of those silly ”outdoorsy” types that like winter activities. Either way, we all have one common problem. Dry skin. In winter, low temperatures, low humidity and strong, harsh winds rob skin of its natural lipid layer, which keeps the skin from drying out. The dry air from furnaces and other heating sources also suck the moisture out of skin. To keep skin soft and supple, your goal is not to add moisture to skin, but to keep moisture in. Here are a few tips we’ve picked up along the way.
Keep Water Lukewarm, Not Hot. Hot water robs skin of moisture, so it’s best to shower in lukewarm water. If you can’t bear this rule — I can’t — try to keep your showers short and try showering only once per day. This also means skipping hot tubs (another rule I simply cannot bear). The hot, hot temperature, combined with drying chemicals, is torture on dry skin.
Moisturize After Showers or Hand Washing. Moisture is the key to soft, supple skin. Apply product when skin is slightly damp. For best effect, pat skin dry instead of rubbing with your towel before application. Our pure whipped shea butter is an absolute dream for thirsty skin.
Exfoliate on a Weekly or Semi-Weekly Basis. Moisturizer is much more effective on properly exfoliated skin. Use a sugar scrub in the shower and exfoliate your face with a mild facial scrub.
And finally, Skip the Drying Soaps! Commercial soap can be drying. Stick with a creamy moisturizing cleanser that contains glycerin or goats milk, which all of yummy our soaps are chock full of.
Also coming to the site asap. Bath melts, which are lovely little treats full of cocoa butter and fruit extracts, decadent melt in hand massage bars, and our new line of mineral shadow and lipsticks, finally!
Also, next weekend Nikki and I will be getting glammed up with S.W.A.K cosmetics and Shot by the lovely Dana Brushette, to show all of you just what S.W.A.K can do! Keep an eye on the site for our pictures! And I SWEAR I will put up the S.W.A.K page soon. Thanks for your continuing patience.
Love:
