Please Support Me In The Ride to Conquer Cancer!

Posted on Apr 16 in: Blog - Comments Off

Dear Soap Opera Fans,

This year I will be embarking on a cycling journey from Toronto to Niagara Falls to raise money for Cancer research.  This will be my second year participating in this amazing event.  In order to reach my goal of $2,500 I will need all the support I can get.  If you could help me out with this I would be forever grateful.  Every little bit helps, no donation is too small.   I promise that after I ride my bike from Toronto to Niagara Falls you can all bounce coins off my buns-of-steel and I also promise to crack all your walnuts with my rock hard thighs!  :)

Here is a link to my personal page.  I am riding in loving memory of my grandfather and two of my childhood friends that have tragically lost their lives to cancer.  Contribute to this history-making event with a donation. Funds raised in The Ride to Conquer Cancer will support breakthrough research, exemplary teaching, and compassionate care at The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world.  I greatly appreciate any donations that I receive.  Thank you for taking the time to read my page, and thank you for the support!

Sincerely;
~Virginia

February. A month of love….and dry skin?

Posted on Jan 17 in: Blog - Comments Off

I know we haven’t blogged in a LONG time.  Christmas snuck up on me and clubbed me over the head and kept me hostage in it’s dank basement until I was able to break free after New Year.  So, Happy New Year everyone, we have a brand spanking new blog, and here it is.  Nikki wrote this one, so please pretend you like it or she will will be sulky and insufferable for ever.  Enjoy!

Yep. The ”blahs” are here. Holidays are over, most of us cooped up inside dreaming of tropical beaches. Unless of course, you’re one of those silly ”outdoorsy” types that like winter activities. Either way, we all have one common problem. Dry skin. In winter, low temperatures, low humidity and strong, harsh winds rob skin of its natural lipid layer, which keeps the skin from drying out. The dry air from furnaces and other heating sources also suck the moisture out of skin. To keep skin soft and supple, your goal is not to add moisture to skin, but to keep moisture in. Here are a few tips we’ve picked up along the way.

Keep Water Lukewarm, Not Hot. Hot water robs skin of moisture, so it’s best to shower in lukewarm water. If you can’t bear this rule — I can’t — try to keep your showers short and try showering only once per day. This also means skipping hot tubs (another rule I simply cannot bear). The hot, hot temperature, combined with drying chemicals, is torture on dry skin.

Moisturize After Showers or Hand Washing. Moisture is the key to soft, supple skin. Apply product when skin is slightly damp. For best effect, pat skin dry instead of rubbing with your towel before application. Our pure whipped shea butter is an absolute dream for thirsty skin.

Exfoliate on a Weekly or Semi-Weekly Basis. Moisturizer is much more effective on properly exfoliated skin. Use a sugar scrub in the shower and exfoliate your face with a mild facial scrub.

And finally,  Skip the Drying Soaps! Commercial soap can be drying. Stick with a creamy moisturizing cleanser that contains glycerin or goats milk, which all of yummy our soaps are chock full of.

Also coming to the site asap.  Bath melts, which are lovely little treats full of cocoa butter and fruit extracts, decadent melt in hand massage bars, and our new line of mineral shadow and lipsticks, finally!

Also, next weekend Nikki and I will be getting glammed up with S.W.A.K cosmetics and Shot by the lovely Dana Brushette, to show all of you just what S.W.A.K can do!    Keep an eye on the site for our pictures! And I SWEAR I will put up the S.W.A.K page soon.  Thanks for your continuing patience.

Love:

OMG!! What are you putting on your FACE?!?

Hello All.

We are in a real dilly of a pickle here at the Shop.  We are about to launch our mineral makeup line on the web.  We have been making and wearing our own makeup for quite some time and it has been available for purchase in the shop since last summer.  We decided that mineral makeup was the way to go after we started researching some of the absolutely disgusting and down right degradable ingredients that were going into the overpriced commercial makeup we were using before.  Ingredients such as human foreskin, whale vomit, bird poop, bull semen, snail secretions, SHEEPS PLACENTA!!!  Seriously, do the research for yourself, I couldn’t make that stuff up.  It makes me want to barf until I am dead.  Here is one of MANY articles that will open your eyes to what you are putting on your eyes.

Whats in YOUR makeup?

Needless to say, after we learned about the harsh and reppulsive ingredients that are in commercial makeup, we opted for a more natural, less disgusting solution.   Originally we were going to call our makeup line “Snooks Cosmetics” after our sweet and loving granny.  Snooks was her nickname and we adored her to bits.  This was our way of paying homage to a great great lady.  However this is where we run into a bit of a problem.  We are afraid that people will associate Snooks, with Snookie from Jersey Shore.  Urban dictionary describes Snookie best as a “4’9″ umpalumpa on Jersey Shore best known for being punched in the face”.  This is NOT the image we want people conjuring up when they hear “Snooks”.  The thought that somebody will confuse my sweet and innocent granny with a drunken, over-tanned skank, really gets my blood boiling.  So we thought of another name “S.W.A.K Cosmetics”.  S.W.A.K stands for Sealed With A Kiss (In case you didn’t know) and it was this word that granny printed on the envelope of every birthday card and letter she ever sent us.  She would also draw three tiny balloons with smiley faces.  It was completely and utterly adorable.   We have decided to put it to a vote, what do you like best?  Snooks or S.W.A.K?  THAT is the question.  We look forward to your responses.  Oh yeah and only  45 days 23 hours and 35 minutes left until Christmas, but who’s counting?

Whale Vomit….Seriously!

~The Soap Sisters

R.I.P Snooks, we miss you every day!

Santa is on his way…

Well, Halloween is over and it’s time to rush willy nilly into the next holiday!  Christmas 2010 brings some great new products. We’re really excited about Doll Face, our all natural skin care line that will leave you so glowing and radiant, your boss won’t be able to keep his grabby paws off your ‘assets’ at the staff Christmas party.
.
Every skin type is covered here and if it isn’t, drop us an email and tell us what your problem is.  We’re also brewing up some delicious holiday soaps and scents, from butter creams and vanillas, to woody balsam and pine, we have something for everyone on your list!  Watch for the new additions, massage candles, bay rum men’s line and holiday mineral shadows that can also be used as lip gloss, nail colour and liquid liner.  Do you like to leave your Holiday Shopping until the last minute?  That’s okay, don’t fret, we’ve got your holiday shopping covered.  While everyone else is punching their way through crowded, stuffy malls, walking through tepid clouds of stranger’s flatulence, you should stay at home with a delicious holiday beverage and let us do your work.  We have elves on hand to whip up your bath goodies as you order.  Not looking forward to visiting annoying family members over the Holidays?  Don’t worry, we have a gift wrapping service available by request so you can have a beautifully wrapped present tactfully delivered to the house of that weird, drunken aunt that wags her bony crooked finger in your face and tells you how to  live your life.  Looking for a unique gift for your man?  We know that very few men get giddy over hand made bath products, so we’ve thought of the PERFECT solution.  Our talented friend Dana Brushette will be booking Christmas pinup photoshoots. She’ll glam you up and rock you out! Check out her work here and on facebook. Tell her The Soap Opera sent you.
.
We’ve been privileged enough to be glammed up and shot by Dana on a couple occasions, and not only is it great fun, but once your man sees the photos, you’ll be mauled like a camera happy tourist that fell into the grizzly pit at the zoo. That could be a good or bad thing, we’ll let you decide.
